The North East Community Forest (NECF) is comprised of six local authorities in North East England, with national and local partners.
Living Woods is one of the local partners of NECF, and is also working with various parts of North East Community Forest to deliver community engagement, through tree planting and other woodland creation events.
For more information about NECF, click here.
The purpose of this page is to promote the various elements of work we do in partnership with NECF, as follows:
Community Tree Planting
Currently working with Gateshead Council, South Tyneside Council and North Tyneside Council on events to plant trees on public land with local communities.
Schools Tree Planting & Tree Care
Events across the region in local primary schools – sorry, these are not public events.
Looking after local tiny forests
We are the local partner for Earthwatch, delivering ongoing maintenance, community engagement and citizen science in the nine Tiny Forests in the North East Community Forest.
Four of the Tiny Forests are on public land where the local community can be involved in Newcastle and Gateshead. The other five Tiny Forests are in primary schools in Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland – find out more about Tiny Forests at Earthwatch.
Breaking news/ new opportunity – new woodland creation for Gateshead – get involved
Over 37,000 native trees will be planted NEAR Barlow by Gateshead Council – and you!
Gateshead Council are creating a 33 Hectare woodland on land they have newly acquired, and Living Woods is helping people to get involved in planting trees. The new woodland will buffer and protect the neighbouring ancient woodland while providing further benefits for biodiversity, amenity, and carbon sequestration.
Join us on Saturday 14 March or Saturday 28 March, and make a difference.
These two community tree planting events start at 10am and are open to all. Use the QR code to find out more or visit our website. We will then send you information about the day, and also details of the exact location between Winlaton and Rowlands Gill. All trees, tools and instructions provided.
If you have any questions about these events, please email volunteering@living-woods.org.uk
Please note due to parking restrictions and to manage numbers, people must sign up for the event that wish to attend, thank you.
