We’re running an Introduction to Charcoal Making day in Horsley Woods. Learn about the role of charcoal in woodland management, how to make charcoal and cook your own lunch. You’ll also take away a free bag.
August 11 is St Alexander’s Day – the patron saint of charcoal burners. Come and join us as we make and bag charcoal from our modern retort kiln in our woodlands.
We will talk through the whole process as it happens and you will get to see how the woodland is managed through coppicing for biodiversity and woodland products including charcoal.
We will set up barbecues for you to cook your own lunch (please bring your own meat or vegetarian option) on charcoal taken out of the kiln on the day.
At the end of the day each attendee will also receive a free small bag of our charcoal (RRP £7.99)
