National Tree Week – Willow Woodland Working Day near Haydon Bridge

As part of National Tree Week and celebrating it’s 50th year we are running community volunteer tree events for the whole 9 days.

This is a patch of willow on a farm in Haydon Bridge, we manage the willow by pollarding it annually with hand tools.

The main willows are early biomass varieties, so they grow fast and also produce nice straight stems for weaving when cut regularly. We often see scarlet elf cup here – one of the first fungi of the year.

Do wear weather appropriate clothes, layers are good as we can get warm when we work even if it is cool. Waterproofs if necessary and sturdy footwear is essential. Something to sit on (plastic sheet, sit mat, etc). please bring work gloves if you have any.

Please bring plenty of water to drink, a packed lunch and a flask if you wish.

Living Woods facilitators will bring necessary tools and provide guidance and advice.

More details upon booking.

Have a great time!

At Living Woods we are very excited about National Tree Week this year as it’s the 50th one! We have decided to really celebrate by running an event on each of the nine days of National Tree Week, to make a significant difference through Living Woods. Come along and be part of this milestone week!
